City Council Places Two Ballot Measures on November 8th General Election Ballot
At the July 5, 2016 regular Council meeting, Council voted to place two ballot measures on the November 8th General Election Ballot.  Council also voted to establish priorities for groups and individuals who would like to submit arguments for or against these measures.  The ballot questions are as follows: 
     Shall the 250 limit on dwelling units for living accommodations for low income persons and families and for the blind, elderly and disabled to be developed, constructed or acquired by public bodies within the City of Eureka be amended to provide that the number of low income rental units authorized shall be limited in any year to three percent (3%) of the total number of housing units existing in the City of Eureka during that year?

     Shall Section 210 of the Charter of the City of Eureka be amended to allow voters to elect a City Councilmember to represent them form the ward in which the residents are registered to vote?

Deadlines for Arguments for or against these measures will be accepted at the City Clerks office from individuals or groups through 5 P.M. on August 3, 2016.  All arguments must be submitted with a "Form of Statement for Authors of Arguments" and signed by those authoring an argument for or against these measures.

City Council Nomination Period
The nomination period for Ward 2 and Ward 4 Council positions opens Monday, July 18th and runs through August 12th.  The General Election will be held November 8, 2016.  Please contact the City Clerks office (441-4175) if you live in either of these wards and would like to serve your City as a Council member. 


Local Officials to Attend FEMA Training

Disaster preparedness and response professionals of the Humboldt Bay Area have been accepted into FEMA's community specific "Integrated Emergency Management Course"(IEMC).  The Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) accepts only twelve communities nationwide annually to participate in the IEMC.  This week long course will be held at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland, May 16 - May 19, 2016.

Eureka Chamber of Commerce Adopt a Block Program
The Eureka Chamber of Commerce and local businesses have come together to create a means for organizations to help clean up and maintain the city of Eureka. You can participate by adopting one of the areas the Adopt-A-Block committee has designated as needing special attention. Several of these areas have already been adopted. But many are still available. Adopting an area means you will take responsibility for an intial clean up and ongoing weekly maintenance for 1 year.
