About the Department

The City of Eureka is the county seat and principal city in Humboldt County, California. The City comprises 9.4 square miles of land. The residential population of the City is 28,606. The daytime population of the City increases significantly with the influx of county seat business and the busy Highway 101, which runs the length of the City.

The Eureka Police Department serves the community with 52 Sworn Officers and 40 professional staff civilian employees. The professional men and women of the department work together to make the City a safer place to live and work. Our top priority is providing excellent service.

Our officers have experience that ranges from over 50 years to the newly trained officer who is just beginning their law enforcement career. Eureka Police Department is a highly desirable place to work and attracts many experienced or “lateral” officers.

Our professional staff is an important part of the Eureka Police Department. They are dedicated people who have chosen a career in Public Safety.
