Why work for the Eureka Community Services Department?

Eureka Community Services takes great pride in the programs we offer, as we employ over 100 part-time staff at any given time throughout the year.  We invite you to explore the many employment opportunities available.  Seasonal to year-round positions range from Recreation Aides who work at the beautiful Adorni Center on the waterfront, to Event Attendants at the Wharfinger Building and Recreation Leaders in our many After-School Programs, Summer Camps and Community Classes to Scorekeepers and Referees in our sports leagues.  Job experience is not always necessary, but applicants must display a good work ethic, sense of teamwork, and a willingness to help strengthen our community through the dynamic and diverse field of parks and recreation.

Old Town Eureka Community Custodian - TEMP


  • Maintain the beauty of Old Town Eureka & Waterfront
  • Heavy cleaning restrooms & other public spaces
  • Light landscaping & special event support
  • Approx. 20-24 hrs./week
  • $13.34/hour & up
  • Potential schedule: Wednesday - Sunday 10am - 8pm (hours vary by day)

Youth

  • Preschool Teacher - NEW
    • Plan & lead activities for youth ages 2.5 - 5 years
    • Provide & oversee a safe, healthy play environment which enables youth to participate in positive activities
    • Communicate with parents about daily experiences with children.
    • Must be available Monday - Friday between 9am - 5pm, shifts vary depending on need
    • $15.37/hour - $17.80/hour - DOE
    • Must get fingerprinted, TB test, prove TDap, MMR & will get Child & Infant First Aid/CPR certified

  • After School Program - Recreation Leader - NEW
    • Work with school aged youth - homework assistance, enrichment activities, outdoor play & more.
    • Plan & lead activities for youth grades K-8th.
    • $11.00/hour - $13.371/hour & up - DOE
    • Shifts available Monday - Friday, 2pm - 6pm.

  • Roller Skating Program - Recreation Leader
    • Assist skate participants as needed
    • $11.03/hour & up
    • Various Friday and/or Saturday evenings

Youth Sports:

  • Hoopsters Youth Basketball Referee 
    • Responsible for officiating Youth Basketball games with a partner
    • $13.10/hour & up
    • Weekends - morning, afternoon & evening shifts available
    • January - April 
    • Ages 18 years & up
  • Hoopsters Youth Basketball Scorekeeper 
    • Working solo, responsible for official book and clock
    • $11.03/hour & up
    • Weekends - morning, afternoon & evening shifts available
    • January - April 
    • Ages 15 years & up 
  • Gym Supervisor for Weekly Practices 
    • Supervise coaches & teams during weekday practices.  Other duties as assigned.
    • $11.03/hour & up
    • Practices are Monday - Friday 3:30pm - 9pm

Adult Sports

  • Volleyball Official (January - May & September - December)
    • Applicants must be familiar with United States Volleyball Association (USVBA) rules  
    • $12.06/hour & up
    • Games played Tuesdays & Wednesday evenings 
    • Official acts as referee and keeps score 
    • Must be CPR & First Aid certified within one month of hire
  • Men's Basketball Referee (January - May & October - December)
    • Enforce all game rules and playing conditions
    • Making judgement calls on plays
    • Handling disciplinary actions, directing players, and coaches
    • Games played on Monday & Thursday nights with 3 games a night
    • $19.11/hour & up
    • Must be CPR & First Aid certified within one month of hire
  • Basketball Scorekeeper (January - May & October - December)
    • Maintain a written record of basketball games
    • Operating a scoreboard
    • Completing game results to the Recreation Office
    • Completing accident and incident reports
    • Responsible for gym set-up (tables & chairs) before and after game
    • $11.03/hour & up
    • Games played on Monday & Thursday nights with 3 games a night
  • Softball Official (June - September)
    • Responsible for officiating Adult Softball games
    • $18.30/hour & up
    • Weeknights - Monday-Friday 6pm - 10:45pm
    • Ages 18 years & up
  • Softball Scorekeeper (June - September)
    • Working solo, responsible for official book
    • $11.03/hour & up
    • Weeknights - Monday-Friday 6pm - 10:45pm
    • Ages 18 years & up
