Immediately and thoroughly wash the wound with soap and water.  If possible, cleanse further with an antiseptic solution, and apply an antibiotic ointment.  If the wound is severe or risk-factors are involved, seek medical advice at once.  If you were bitten by a wild or stray animal that could have rabies, you may need to begin anti-rabies treatment.

What are the leash laws?
Eureka Municipal Code Section 91.001 requires dogs to be on a leash at all times when not tethered or confined to a secure enclosure such as a fenced yard, pen, house, room, or in a vehicle during transportation.  Section 91.018 prohibits allowing animals other than household pets from running at-large in public places or trespassing on private property.

Where are the dog parks?
Eureka is a dog-friendly city.  Dogs can be seen happily walking their humans, on leash, all around the city.  Although dogs are prohibited in most City parks (EMC Section 93.53), dogs are allowed on leash in the Sequoia Park Trail System.  Responsible dog-owners clean up after their pets.
