The purpose of including a student member on the Transportation Safety Commission is to add a student’s perspective on the problems, needs and concerns relating to transportation issues concerning Eureka’s youth.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for a civic minded high school student who has an interest in traffic safety and engineering to learn about some of the inner workings of local government while earning service learning credits,” says Councilmember Melinda Ciarabellini, who is the City Council’s liaison to the Commission.
Students must be between 16 and 18 years old and live in the City of Eureka or the Humboldt Community Services District. Applications are available at each High School site and at City Hall. Applications must be received at City Hall, c/o Pam Powell, City Clerk, no later than May 1, 2012 at 5:00 P.M.
