20/30 Park was deeded to the City of Eureka in 1952. This was made possible by the Twenty-Thirty Club, a service group of 20-30 year olds which is no longer active in the region. In 2019, the City of Eureka was awarded $6.3 million from California State Parks to transform this park. This effort was made possible by Eureka residents who attended community input meetings and responded to the survey sharing how they envisioned the future of this park. Since then, city staff have been working with design firm, Melton Design Group (MDG), on the final design of the park. Construction is slated to begin early 2023.
The new park will include an Egret and Watershed themed all-inclusive playground, amphitheater, multi-use sports courts (futsal, roller hockey, and basketball), new parking and restrooms, fitness equipment, accessible pathways, open grass, new plazas on California Street and Pine Street, and upgrades to Jacob Haney Field. The City has been partnering with the Wiyot Tribe to include interpretive, cultural and educational elements into the project including native plantings and signage in an effort to acknowledge the Wiyot and other indigenous peoples and provide inclusion when planning uses for public spaces.
There will be local artist opportunities for this project and a call for artists will occur later this year. To sign up for an email alert list, submit a contact form here: https://www.empowereureka.org/contact-us

California State Parks has awarded the City of Eureka’s 20/30 Park with $6,393,200 for park improvements.
The conceptual design above is a direct result of community feedback and engagement.
California State Parks received 478 applications requesting $2.3 billion in funding. With only $254.9 million available, only 62 projects were funded, making Eureka very fortunate to receive this competitive grant. In 2018, California voters passed Prop 68, which directed $254.9 million to State Parks for competitive grants to create new parks and enhance recreational opportunities for all Californians. This is the state’s largest investment in grant funding history targeted for underserved communities and the City of Eureka is excited to announce major improvements planned due to this generous funding opportunity.
Planned park improvements are based on a robust community engagement process where community members shared concerns regarding safety, access, walkability, recreational amendments, and inclusion.

- Lincoln School Cafeteria – 216 W. Harris St., Eureka April 30th, 2019 6pm-8pm
Both of these meetings will be an opportunity for you to share your thoughts about how we can re-imagine and revitalize this neighborhood park.
